To the Legislative Assemble of Victoria

The petition of the travelling public of Victoria and other concerned Victorian residents draws to the attention of the House of the need to re-staff Melbourne’s railway stations.

At present 136 railway stations are unstaffed and unprecedented patronage growth has created dangerous overcrowding on trains and stations.

At unstaffed stations passengers have been left to fend for themselves. At unstaffed stations crime, violence, graffiti, vandalism and fare evasion go undetected.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria calls upon the Government to:

  1. Make immediate plans to fully re-staff the 56 stations named at the side

  2. In addition give consideration to include in their transport plan (November 2008) a schedule for the re-staffing of all Melbourne suburban railway stations.
